EGW Chief of Marine Operations

Francesco Rocco – EGW Chairman and Founder – appoints Davide Fontana as Chief of Marine Operations effective June 22th 2009.

Davide will be in charge of the entire EGW Marine business and in particular will have a key role in the current organization of an innovative sailing format called “1v1 Match Racing” fully created, owned and managed by EGW. The very first regatta will be in the Middle East starting November 2010 with 16 top team from all over the globe. Then the worldwide tour will begin in February 2011 starting in the Middle East before moving to Europe.

As member of the Italian national sailing team for seven years (1990-1997) – Davide partecipated in:

       

  • 7 World Championships
  • 5 European Championships
  • 2 Mediterranean Championships
  • Several Italian championships

 

Other major achievements includes:

 

  • The European Championship in Athens
  • 2 Mediterranean Championship
  • 6 Italian titles including 1 Silver and 3 bronze medals

     

In 1996 he was a member of the Italian Olympics “Europe Class” coaching staff; preparing the team for the Olympic Games in Atlanta. Davide was also been involved in some of the most important regattas in Europe, Australia, United States and New Zealand.
 
He graduated in 2002 from the University Institute of motor science (I.U.S.M.) in Rome with a thesis in the physiological adjustments of a sailor during hiking and in the 2007 Davide became Chairman of Yachting Management.
